Software Engineer
Fluves is a pioneer in fiber optic sensing, combining advanced DTS and DAS technology, real-time data processing and smart analytics to monitor and protect critical infrastructure.
Through its Marlinks product line, Fluves monitors more than 1,800 km of subsea power cables linking offshore wind farms and power grids. The DALI product line detects leaks and intrusions in water networks. Fluves Corrosion assesses the risk of corrosion under insulation in chemical plants.
Fluves is a growing international scale-up, active in critical infrastructure markets around the world.
Our products handle high-volume DAS/DTS signals. Doing that reliably depends on a IT stack with a set of backend (edge) services that ingest data, orchestrate workloads, expose APIs, and integrate outputs into our application. We are looking for a software engineer to build and evolve this stack, ensuring secure, scalable, and observable processing from field deployments through to client-facing applications.
What You Will Do
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated software engineer for the following responsibilities:

We are looking for a software engineer to build and evolve this stack, ensuring secure, scalable, and observable processing from field deployments through to client-facing applications.
What You Will Do
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated software engineer for the following responsibilities:
- Take an active role in the development of the edge-server platform, application backend and API integrations.
- Challenge existing poor architectural patterns constructively and bring structure. Propose, showcase and implement architectural alternatives to improve the computational flow.
- Actively and continuously improve and modernize existing components, focusing on incremental, high-impact enhancements.
- Extend the existing monitoring and benchmarks and profile the current code to identify and improve bottle necks.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in the product development team to design, build, and continuously improve product features in the edge and application layer, and deliver new integrations with internal, third-party, and client platforms.
- Document best practices and clarify trade-offs to shorten the time to deployment of new data product features.
- Holds a degree in computer science or computer engineering, or has equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience.
- Professional Python developer with proven experience with backend development in Django, Django restframework, Postgres and Timescaledb.
- Track record in parallel computing and multiprocessing and/or experience with message brokers, storage backends and task queues (e.g. RabbitMQ, Redis, Celery …).
- Understanding the limitations of computer hardware (CPU and GPU and disk storage patterns).
- Knowledge of low-level programming languages and/or GPU architecture.
- Preferably feels comfortable with scientific Python libraries for array computing such as Numpy and Xarray.
- Some notion of the frequency domain and Fourier transformation is appreciated.
- Clear and open communicator striving for clarity with a documentation reflex.
- Writes unit tests, keeps (sphinx) documentation up to date, knows git and is familiar with CI/CD pipelines.
- Uses AI tools as a standard part of how you write, review, and reason about code, while remaining accountable for the outcome.
- Down to earth, hands-on problem solver that likes to take a deep dive into computational challenges.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in one additional language — Dutch, French, or German — is highly desirable, along with strong writing and presentation skills.
- Current residence in Belgium.
- An opportunity to shape the future with cutting-edge solutions. We value autonomy, collaboration, and impact where every team member plays a key role in shaping our success.
- A full-time contract (40 hours per week).
- A competitive salary package that reflects your experience and performance.
- Comprehensive benefits, including meal vouchers, a mobile phone with a subscription, group insurance, and hospitalization insurance for you and your family members.
- An office based in Ghent, Belgium.
- Flexibility to work from home up to 2 days a week.
- 32 days of annual leave.
Send your CV and a short application note to [email protected]. In your note, please briefly explain:
- Why you are interested in the role and in Fluves
- How your experience and strengths match what we are looking for, as well as any areas where you would still need to grow
- Why you are considering leaving your current position or making a career change
- When you would be available to start
- Your approximate salary expectations
Please note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.
