About Apixa:

Apixa is specialized in solving challenging computer vision problems. We offer services and solutions in various areas of computer vision, including deep learning and artificial intelligence, hyperspectral imaging, pattern recognition, medical imaging, visual inspection, photogrammetry and 3D imaging. Over the years, Apixa has engaged in a multitude of both research oriented projects and industrial automation projects, and amongst its customers there are both renowned international players and high-tech niche players.

About you:

We are looking for a Vision Systems Engineer with strong expertise in optics and imaging systems who enjoys working across both theory and practice—from designing imaging setups and selecting cameras to building prototypes and deploying systems at customer sites.

As a Vision Systems Engineer at Apixa, you will play a key role in the design, development, and deployment of imaging systems used in our computer vision solutions. You will bridge the gap between optical hardware and vision algorithms, ensuring that the imaging setup delivers the data quality required for robust analysis.

This role combines system design, hands-on experimentation, and real-world deployment. You will work in our computer vision lab and workshop to prototype systems, test hardware configurations, and support installations at customer locations.

What will you do?

  • Design and evaluate imaging systems for computer vision applications
  • Select appropriate industrial or scientific cameras based on project requirements
  • Select and optimize lenses and optical components to ensure optimal image quality
  • Analyze imaging performance (resolution, distortion, MTF, SNR, dynamic range, etc.)
  • Work closely with software engineers to ensure imaging systems support computer vision algorithms effectively
  • Perform camera calibration and system validation
  • Stay up to date with new camera technologies and imaging sensors entering the market
  • Maintain strong relationships with camera manufacturers and distributors (e.g., Stemmer Imaging, SICK, Basler, FLIR, etc.)
  • Prototype and test imaging setups in our computer vision lab and workshop
  • Perform basic mechanical design for mounting cameras, lenses, and sensors
  • Assemble and test prototypes and experimental setups
  • Support physical installation and commissioning of vision systems at customer sites.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Computer Vision, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • You have at least 3 years of experience in a business or industrial context
  • Strong understanding of optics and imaging fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with industrial or scientific camera systems
  • Experience selecting cameras and lenses for real-world computer vision applications
  • Familiarity with different imaging technologies (RGB, hyperspectral, thermal, etc.)
  • Experience with camera calibration and imaging system characterization
  • Basic electrical knowledge, including the ability to read electrical schematics and wire various electrical components
  • Practical, hands-on mindset and ability to work in a lab/workshop environment
  • You have a good knowledge of Dutch and English, knowledge of French is a plus
  • You take ownership of projects from start to finish
  • You are a team player.
