Researcher for Wood and Biomass Chemistry

You will be member of our SPOT team (https://spot.vito.be/en) with a focus on the fractionation and optimization of continuous catalytic depolymerization of lignin and biomass. This strategic research theme is focusing on the use of wood and lignin as an alternative feedstock for the production of biobased aromatics. In this respect, VITO is co-initiator of Biorizon, an industry driven Shared Research Center, focusing on technology development for the production of functionalized, biobased aromatics for performance materials, chemicals & coatings. As the leading institute, VITO coordinates the development of lignin derived bio-aromatics. More information available on www.vito.be and www.biorizon.eu

As Researcher For Wood And Biomass Chemistry You Will Develop, Optimize And Translate Wood/biomass Fractionation As Well As Lignin Depolymerization Technology In Close Collaboration With Other Researchers And Operators Of The Pilot. Tasks Include

• To develop and improve fractionation strategies for lignocellulosic biomass
• To identify and optimize analytical protocols for biomass derived process streams
• To optimize lignin dissolution and depolymerization technology at lab scale
• To translate the technology from lab to pilot in close collaboration with pilot operators.

Vereisten

• You have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field, preferably focusing on wood/biomass chemistry
• Background in biomass characterization, biorefineries and/or flow systems is recommended
• You have a result-driven character capable of translating theory to practice and vice versa and are able to find solutions.
• You are passionate about and have hands-on experience by running innovative experimental set-ups and coordinating lab activities.
• Knowledge in process development is an asset, as well as conceptual design know how.
• You are proactive, motivated and an excellent team player who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment
• You are fluent in English and eager to write scientific papers and/or patents. Knowledge of Dutch might be an asset.
